Game Collection As Of 2023
Anyone who knows me knows that I have very particular tastes in games. The collection is smaller than most but I only want to collect games that I’m going to play, otherwise there’s no point in having them. I don’t believe in hoarding coveted rare games like some people do unless said game is something I particularly like. So those of you who are looking for rare games are going to be disappointed, this is just a curated collection of games that mostly matter to me, save a few… but they all have a reason for being here.
So here’s most of my PS2 JRPGs, the only one missing is the greatest of all time which is on the other side of the shelf. The black thin case in between Shadow Hearts Covenant and Shadow Hearts From The New World is the Original Shadow Hearts, I have the promo disk for it which I got because it was cheaper than the complete in box game, that’s why it is in this conveniently thin black case. Legaia 2 I have yet to play… in fact it’s the next JRPG in line for me to play, here’s hoping it’s a good one.
The two cartridges stuffed in with my GB & GBA games are Pokemon Crystal and Star Ocean Blue Sphere, both are loose but I could find cases for them and decided to shelf them. I sold my original copy of Silver due to having lost by save file due to the save battery issue, picked up both Crystal and Gold later down the line, both are loose but only Crystal is shelved, Gold is stored elsewhere with the other loose GB/GBC/GBA games
For those who can’t read the text of the PC engine games here’s YS 3 Wanderers Of YS, as you can see there’s a double but one of them is broken, got refunded for it but they let me keep it so… it’s there. The one in the picture is the one without the mangled disk.
And here is YS IV The Dawn Of Ys, those who checked out my top 10 favorite videogame soundtracks of the 90’s video would know that this game has my favorite OST out of all of the 90’s games I played.
You might notice another 3 doubles, One of Onimusha 3, funny story that one. I ordered the standard version and was sent a copy of a UFC game instead, so I decided to get another copy of Onimusha 3 and this one was the Special Edition version you see shelved here which comes with the behind the scenes DVD inside. After recieving it, my copy of Onimusha 3 that I ordered before turned up. Valkyrie Profile’s US version came bundled in with some figures I got, it’s up there right now holding everything in place but I may sell it at some point. Ninja Gaiden Black is a double because the other one had a mangled disk and the seller wouldn’t refund me so I had to get another copy. Currently use the mangled one to sit inside the disk drive of my 360 to allow it to open because without a disk, the drive gets stuck.
Another double… and the infamous Eternal Quest. Now Eternal Quest is up on this shelf for a reason, it’s a constant reminder to never buy a game just because it’s cheap because it is never worth it, that game sucks. As for the 2 copies of Samurai Warriors 2, once again one of the disks is mangled, so I had to get another copy. Age Of Empires II was gifted to me which is why I have it. Gothic 3 comes in the tin sleeve you’ll have seen next to the WWE games and inside the collectors edition it is a map which I have on my wall and numerous disks ranging from the soundtracks, a making of DVD and the expansion Forsaken Gods. Also the PS2 sticker is peeling off already… goddammit.
What is that mysterious case with no inlay in between Kirby Power Paintbrush (Canvas Curse for you yanks) and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Blue Rescue Team you ask? That is actually a copy of Pokemon Heart Gold that came loose with my 2DS and yes it has the manual in it.
The Cardboard Sleeve game is Smash Bros Brawl, I purchased the game at launch so it came in it and it has some post cards in it. The two blank cases contain King Of Fighters The Saga Continues (which is basically KOF 2000 & 2001 both on the disk) for PS2 and Breath Of Fire Dragon Quarter also for PS2. Both of them have manuals too but no case, so I used an empty Wii box that you got from the Wii Shop points.
There it is, the GOAT (and I’m not talking about God Hand) right on the left hand side of the shelf. It should be noted to you yanks out there that the box titled “Castlevania” is actually Castlevania Lament Of Innocence, they just call it Castlevania over here for some reason.
I got WWE 2K18 bundled in with 2K19 alongside the steelbook case for 2K19 but I only wanted 2K19. I ended up with 2 games and a steelbook which was cheaper than the game by itself so I got a deal on that. The boxes without inlays from the left contain the following games: Kingdom Hearts 1.5 & 2.5 HD Remix (PS4), Drakengard 2 (which has a manual, shit game by the way and is on PS2, considering selling it) and Hot Wheels Extreme Racing (Poor Man’s Turbo Racing for PS1). The Ninja Gaiden Black is the mangled vesion I mentioned before and right next to it is the Gothic 3 Collectors Edition tin sleeve for the game which I put separate because it would fit in otherwise.
The CD cases to the left of Diablo Hellfire are Delta Force Land Warrior for PC and several loose OG Xbox games including Atari Anthology, Forza Motorsport, Ghost Recon, Colin Mcrae Rally 2005 and Porject Gotham Racing 2.
The Box next to Star Ocean is Hyperzone btu sadly it doesn’t show the name on the side of the box in English so I thought I chould mention it. The Japanese version of Hyperzone has the first level in the US/PAL versions of the game swapped with the third level.
Loose Carts Shelf
I have my loose carts on a separate shelf for display, I used food bags to cover them up to protect the board connector underneath and keep them clean. The Repro carts I own are labeled so that you know they aren’t the real thing. Pokemon Stadium is missing screws at the back, hence the tape. Imagine Pet Vet came with my DS when I got it, It’s worthless so I just kept it.
What are my rarest games?
Well value is subjective but from what I’ve gathered, here are the ones that are hard to find and expensive to get hold of:
So Pokemon Soul Silver complete in box is pretty expensive apparrantly, probably due to the Pokewalker it comes with which may add value (even though mine has a flat battery so is unusable anyway unless it gets replaced. It goes for £94 on Ebay. Star Ocean The Second Story is absurdly expensive nowadays in the UK. To get a copy now will cost you at least £100 on Ebay. I got lucky with mine as it only cost me £42 but the prices for this are insane, might as well get the remake or the PSP version. Legend Of Dragoon was the game that got me into JRPGs, it wasn’t my first JRPG, that would be my first game, Pokemon Yellow but it was my first non-Pokemon JRPG and I thought it was cool at the time. I never had the game as a kid but I played it on a demo disk and badly wanted it, ended up getting Final Fantasy VII instead but later on down the line I got this copy. Sadly the inlays have been damaged by flood water but the games inside are fine, only half of the manual is in it though, yeah this game came with 2 separate manuals for some reason. It goes for £95 right now, I paid £50 for it. Growlanser Heritage Of War is the only PAL Growlanser game in existence because apparantly we weren’t good enough to get the others. To top it off, this game is really expensive over here going for around £90 on Ebay, I got it for £73 because I badly wanted a copy, those who read my review will know that it was worth every penny. Diablo 1 on PS1 was my first copy of Diablo 1 which I bought for a reasonable price, though I forgot how much exactly it cost me at the time. All I know is that it costs £60 on Ebay as of right now. The Pokemon Colosseum Mega Pak is where I got my copy of Pokemon Colosseum from and it is also my Gamecube box because that’s how I got my Gamecube in the first place as well as my Gamecube Memory Card & GBA to Gamecube link cable (which are not currently in the box). This item seems to be so rare that there’s no version of it available, probably the rarest thing I have right here, I will never forget getting this thing for my birthday in 2004, man that was an awesome birthday present, thanks mum and dad. Finally there’s Kirby Air Ride, I pucked up this game for £30 at Gamestation pre-owned, wow even the pre-owned price was steep. Nevertheless the price this game goes at today is insane £140, holy shit. I could also mention Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door on my selection of rarest games… but I prefer not to talk about that one… my wallet still hurts from the pain of having to reacquire the thing.
